Under sunny skies with the temperature hovering at freezing, more than 175 riders from 12 different hunts up and down the East Coast gathered at George and Gretchen Wintersteen’s farm to participate in an historic fox hunt to raise funds for partially paralyzed amateur steeplechase jockey Jake Chalfin.
The December 18 gathering by host Cheshire Foxhounds referenced similar large local hunts, the last one in 1940, commemorating the original in 1796.
More than $30,000 was raised for Chalfin’s medical expenses.
