Simon Pearce on the Brandywine, a restaurant and glass-blowing workshop, announced on Jan. 12 that it would close at the end of that week, after a decade of doing business in West Chester. The restaurant, glass-blowing workshop and store, located on the banks of the Brandywine, were a popular destination both for tourists and for locals who wanted to enjoy an excellent dinner. The store, which features pottery and glassware, will remain open through Feb. 13.
In a letter posed on its website, CEO Simon Pearce and company president Rob Adams wrote:
“After a great deal of careful thought, we’ve made the very difficult decision to close our Brandywine facility. The restaurant and glassblowing workshop are closed as of Wednesday, January 12th. For your convenience, the retail store will remain open an additional month through end of day Sunday, February 13th. We will be offering 30% off all second-quality designs, sale items, home accents, and furniture in the store.
We can’t thank you enough for appreciating and supporting Simon Pearce the way you have over the past 10 great years in West Chester. Our goal from the beginning was to create an experience in Pennsylvania not unlike our original and flagship home in Quechee, Vermont – a glassblowing, shopping and dining destination that showcased the authentic lifestyle and handcrafted products that have been the Simon Pearce hallmark for 30 years. We hope we accomplished that goal and provided a great deal of enjoyment and inspiration in the last 10 years. We have certainly enjoyed all the wonderful people who made our facility a regular destination.
Our decision to close the facility is by no means a reflection on the performance of our team in West Chester. As many of you know, we have had an outstanding group of dedicated individuals putting their heart into delivering a great experience every day – which makes this decision all the more difficult.”
The company’s glassware will still be for sale on the company’s website, www.simonpearce.com.
