6abc Meteorologist Adam Joseph’s House Is Resplendent for the Holidays

Photos by Ed Williams

A self-proclaimed Christmas fanatic, 6abc’s Adam Joseph knows how to do holidays right.

Adam Joseph can’t promise a white Christmas, but the 6abc meteorologist can guarantee that the Chester County home he shares with his husband, Karl Kraft, and their two young children will be a winter wonderland for the holidays.

Each year, before the pumpkins get frosty, the family begins assembling elaborate decorations and installing outdoor lights on warm fall days, flicking the switch on Thanksgiving night. “We start putting up the indoor decorations on Nov. 1,” Joseph says. “Halloween comes down, and Christmas goes right up.”

The couple’s children—Jacob, 10, and Hannah, 8—have inspired Joseph to add colored lights to a mix that includes warm white varieties, abundant greenery and decorations handed down through the family. “I remember loving colored lights as a kid. Plus, the kids said all-white is boring,” he says.

Among the stockings and trees are family mementoes. The kissing angel figurines were handed down by Kraft’s mother. “I have an angel that moves with a candle in her hand that was my nana’s—and also a stuffed Santa that was my mom’s as a little girl,” Joseph says.

No worries about Santa finding his reward. There’s a designated cocoa station in the kitchen.

The foyer is resplendent with a glittering garland that spans the entryway, flanked by a pair of small potted trees. Joseph uses high-quality artificial greenery indoors, layering in berries and pinecones for an authentic look. Outdoors, he combines real and artificial greens.

Each year, there’s a party at the house on the first weekend in December, where guests are greeted by the scent of fresh-baked holiday cookies, cakes and pastries. No worries about Santa finding his reward. There’s a designated cocoa station in the kitchen.

“I make all the desserts from scratch, and the kids help,” Joseph says. “My dessert table has grown each year.”

Aware that holiday experiences bring lasting memories for kids, the couple plans outings the family can enjoy together. A favorite destination is Rose Tree Park in Media (“an amazing Christmas village and lights”), along with drives around various neighborhoods to take in holiday displays.

Joseph will help others get in the holiday spirit when he and WMMR’s Kathy Romano return as emcees of the West Chester Christmas Parade Dec. 6. And what about a white Christmas? “Sadly, statistics are very low,” Joseph says. “Philadelphia has a 9% chance of a white Christmas.”
