Have a fun-filled festive season with our decadent dining and design ideas. Interior design trends follow fashion trends, and vice versa according to Candice Centrella Tigani of Feather Your Nest. It’s all about mixing the old with the new and having fun with color, she says.
Turn up or soften down the holiday mood with fashion’s favorite seasonal color combinations. Vibrant turquoise, and drenched green tones boldly displayed with metallic gold and silver accents are de rigueur this year. This trend works well in a home that is normally neutral or earth-toned or in a room that already has some jewel-toned elements.
Nothing evokes the mood like color—with the most visceral impact. And impact is what you want for those holiday gatherings. For memories that linger, color can promote peace, excitement, or comfort. The holidays are the perfect time of year to bring out your china and silver; but be sure to add a modern twist of color for a sophisticated and harmonizing effect.
The Gold Laque Nouveau chargers shown on opposite page were purchased on a trip to Italy; the gold antique dinner plate is Cauldron China, combined with the Rose Medallion salad plate that adds a charming touch of color. For more than a century and a half, Rose Medallion porcelain was among the most popular of the Chinese export wares. Rose Medallion is one of the patterns in a group known as the “famille rose,” or “pink family” of Chinese wares exported to the West. It’s a French term, coined by the Jesuit priests who were commissioned by the Vatican in the late 1700s to catalogue items coming out of China.
The antique silver service sets the tone for the holidays; pair it with turquoise feather trees and Christmas balls from Barbara Goodman Design.
Create groupings to achieve a modern approach to design.
Personalized champagne glasses from Wise-Glass.com are a great gift for the holidays.
