Swimmingly Good Swimwear

A swimsuit and cover-up is essential, whether you’re headed to the islands, visiting the family beach house or lounging at the neighborhood pool. If your instinct is to pick up a basic black one-piece and throw on an old sundress, think again! This summer, it’s all about bright, eye-catching swimwear.

Cristi Miller, owner of Houppette in Greenville, Del., says, “We’re seeing a trend in tribal prints and pretty geometrics.” This Eberjey bikini is both vibrant and bohemian while other swimsuits are budding with floral patterns.

Trina Turk’s “Aquarius” one-piece features an all-over floral print in the designer’s signature bold colors.  “Trina Turk swimsuits offer wonderful coverage while still making your feel beautiful,” says Heather Plummer, manager at ELLIE in Greenville, Del.

Vintage-inspired swimwear has made a comeback, with high-waisted bikini bottoms and halter necklines, giving modern bathing suits a retro feel.  A feminine floral pattern decorates this Nanette Lepore two-piece from Anthropologie.

If you want to make a splash beyond the beach, try a bright-colored cover-up. This Mara Hoffman kaftan follows the tribal swim trend and looks cute with flip flops or wedges. Ashley Palandrani, owner of Ashley Austin in Kennett Square says, “At Ashley Austin we love a great beach and/or pool cover up, one that takes you to and from the beach or for a bite to eat.  That’s why we adore this Echo tropical cover up.  It’s comfortable yet so stylish, it can be perfect for so many parts of the day and you’ll look fabulous the entire time.”
