Ancient Rome began its decline almost 15 centuries ago, but the influence of this great imperial power is still seen throughout the Western world.
Three years in development, Ancient Rome & America debuts this year at the National Constitution Center and explores the cultural, political and social connections between this long-ago world and our own young country.
Our alphabet, language, and even the way we track time are all influenced by ancient Rome, as are elements of our monetary and judiciary systems, and our art and architecture. The exhibit includes more than 300 artifacts from archaeological collections in Italy and historical items from America.
