Clean Up for Some Fun

Share

It’s always a rewarding feeling to clean up the environment and bring forth its natural beauty, and Red Clay Valley Association (RCVA) is looking for volunteers.

RCVA and the Delaware Nature Society (DNA), with additional support from the Kennett Area Park Authority, Phillips Mushrooms, Wild Birds Unlimited, WSFS, and others, are looking for volunteers to help clean up nearly 50 miles of stream and roadways. The clean up follows east and west branches of the Red Clay Creek, including Kennett Square Borough, going south through Yorklyn and Hockessin, Del., and ending at Kirkwood Highway.

Volunteers are an extreme part to the success of this clean up. They?re celebrating its 25th year; last year having 670 volunteers collected more than 11 tons of trash.

?Volunteers work hard but most also consider it great fun and an opportunity for family and neighbors to get together,? says Jim Jordan, chair of the Red Clay Clean Up project.

The volunteers gather in Kennett Square at Anson B. Nixon Park, Kennett Area YMCA’s Outdoor Pool, or in Hockessin, Del. at the Ashland Nature Center. There will be refreshments including Starbucks coffee. Volunteers are assigned to areas along the clean up route, and the necessary materials are provided.

It’s a fun spring event for the whole family, and it helps out a good cause. Contact RCVA at 610.793.1090, or DNS at 302.239.2334 for their assigned route prior to the event.
