The Delaware Center for Horticulture (DCH) hosts a gala fundraising event that gives guests an unparalleled opportunity to meet renowned horticulture experts in one of the regions premier horticulture destinations, Longwood Gardens.
The Rare Plant Auction typically raises more than $100,000 for the DCH each year through ticket sales, three silent auctions, two online auctions and an exciting live auction hosted by Marc Porter, president of Christie’s Americas exclusive auction house.
Many well-known plant breeders from across the country donate specimens to this benefit event that are new to the trade or not yet introduced into the market. Plant donations from individuals include selections from the gardens and greenhouses of award-winning Philadelphia Flower Show competitors. The auction now features electronic bidding and checkout, and a handy map tucked into a quality, colorful catalog.
Reservations for the Rare Plant Auction start at $125 and entitle guests to a full day at Longwood Gardens, followed by a memorable evening with cocktails, a gourmet dinner, and fantastic plant, shrub and tree specimens staged throughout the Longwood Gardens Conservatory, Ballroom, Fern Floor and Patio of Oranges.
All proceeds benefit the DCH Community Greening Program, which uses horticulture to beautify Delaware and improve the quality of life for residents in urban and suburban neighborhoods. Founded in 1977, the Delaware Center for Horticulture (DCH) cultivates greener communities by inspiring appreciation and improvement of the environment through horticulture, education and conservation.
