The Delaware Art Museum is pleased to present ?Fashion, Circus, Spectacle: Photographs by Scott Heiser?. The exhibit features 80 of the photographer’s black-and-white prints along with a slideshow of his seldom-seen color photos.

The Wilmington, Del., native is best known for his grainy, wildly cropped glimpses of fashion runway shows, which appeared in the avant-garde magazine Interview between 1978 and 1987. A master of composition, Heiser was able to capture the behind-the-scenes atmosphere, providing an insider’s view of the shows as well as intriguing details onstage that ordinary viewers overlook.

This is the first retrospective exhibition dedicated to Heiser, who expanded his field in the 1980s by documenting wide range of public attractions, including circuses, dance competitions, and the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.

Heiser studied photography at the Rhode Island School of Design before moving to New York City, where he chronicled the vibrant cultural scene for downtown publications like the Soho Weekly News and Paper.
