Don?t horse around; mark your calendars! The great tradition of the Devon Horse Show, which benefits Bryn Mawr Hospital, continues this year, with top competition in a variety of disciplines, exciting exhibitions, and special events. Devon Horse Show and Country Fair has been named the No. 2 top horse show in North America by the prestigious North American Riders Group (NARG). Classes are offered during the week, varying from training in pinnacle show jumping to lead line, to family classes and four-in-hand driving instruction.
In 1896, the Devon Horse Show started as a one-day show. Now, years later, it has become the oldest and largest outdoor multi-breed competition in the United States. It is internationally recognized, USEF-A rated, and one of the most exciting events to happen in the area. While it draws top competitors from around the world, the show continues to reflect the local traditions and lifestyles of the Philadelphia Main Line.
Look for big crowds at the highlight of the horse show, the Grand Prix, which is so competitive that horses must complete a yearlong qualifying process in order to compete. To gain more information on purchasing the best-reserved Grandstand tickets for the May 30 Grand Prix, click here.
Also popular is the Country Fair, where you can tour the stables and meet the horses and riders, as well as nibble treats from local vendors and take in a juried art competition. What?re you hungry for? You?ll find delicious concessions selling burgers, hot dogs, cotton candy, pizza and classic Devon fudge. Make sure to visit the art gallery and take a walk down the giant Midway featuring a Ferris wheel, carousel and game booths for all ages.
