The Center for the Creative Arts in Yorklyn, Del., holds its popular Luck of the Draw event, which this year features special guest artist Karl Kuerner, who will speak about his work.
Kuerner was born in Chadds Ford and grew up surrounded by artists and the task of painting. His artistic talent was recognized and nurtured at a young age by Carolyn Wyeth – sister of Andrew Wyeth and a renowned artist in her own right. From the age of 7 he watched Andrew Wyeth paint some of his greatest works at the Kuerner Farm – Karl’s family homestead for three generations. The farm inspired more than 1,000 of Wyeth’s works of art, and eventually more than 300 of Kuerner’s own works.
As Kuerner matured artistically, Wyeth took a keen interest in the young artist, mentoring and teaching him for more than three decades.
“His work is inspiring and deeply introspective . . . it exhibits a strong honest quality that comes from deep within and touches the ordinary in a profound way,” Wyeth said of Kuerner.
The Luck of the Draw event will be hosted by emcee Victoria Wyeth, the granddaughter of Andrew Wyeth, and include live music, wine, and hors d”oeuvres. At the high point of the evening Wyeth will begin drawing cards at random and the ticket holder with the matching card is given one minute to select a piece of art from any of the donated works displayed on the surrounding walls.
Tickets are $75. Non-participating guests are $10. Call 302.239.2434 to reserve a ticket, as a limited number are available. Proceeds benefit children’s scholarships for summer art camp and art classes.
