For more than 50 years, the Green Show has served as Christ Church’s annual fund-raiser, providing fellowship for Christ Church Christiana Hundred parishioners and funds for community organizations. The term “Green Show” refers to the early beginnings of selling fresh holiday greens — handmade wreaths, topiary, bundles of holly, magnolia, and exotic evergreens.
Considerable time, talent, and enthusiasm are exhibited the week of the Green Show as fresh, one-of-a-kind arrangements are assembled. Volunteers of all ages begin working in earnest starting in September at informational workshops and with take-home kits and supplies for those who are unable to attend the workshops.
Homemade Soups, Gourmet Meals to Go, Wine Corner, and Plants are just a few of the shops open during the Green Show Preview. The centerpiece of the evening is a fabulous Silent Auction filled with special vacations to exotic places, tickets to sporting and cultural events, gift baskets, artwork, and many other treasures. The Christ Church Green Show itself is open to the entire community. Inside Greens, Outside Greens, Pantry Shelf, Plants, Soups, and Gourmet Freezer Shops are well stocked for all of your holiday shopping and entertaining needs, and a cafeteria-style express lunch is available as well.
All proceeds are allocated through the Outreach Committee to charitable organizations in the community. The 2009 Green Show raised more than $77,500 for these organizations.
The 2010 Green Show will take place on Saturday, December 4 from 10am to 2pm, with the Preview Party on Friday, December 3 from 6 to 9pm. For more information, visit www.christchurchde.org.
