The Somerville Manning Gallery hosts a collection of 19th- and early 20th-century trompe l”oeil paintings.

"Full Attention," by Robert C. Jackson, a trompe l'oeil artist featured at Somervill Manning Gallery.

Trompe l”oeil, a French term meaning “fool the eye,” is a part of a long tradition of illusionary work. The gallery presents the work of 22 contemporary artists including Robert C. Jackson and Greg Mort. The gallery also will examine how the tradition of trompe l”oeil has evolved from its origins to the present day.

The exhibit will run concurrent with the trompe l”oeil exhibit at the Brandywine River Museum from September 11 to November 18 in Chadds Ford, Pa.
