“Floral Notes,” a Standard Flower Show by five National Garden Club member clubs, held under the auspices of the Visitor Education Department of Longwood Gardens, takes place at Longwood Gardens.
Staging a flower show for the public supports the purpose of garden clubs everywhere – to stimulate interest and knowledge of gardening, flower arranging and conservation. These days, with a renewed interest in gardening as a way of beautifying, feeding and saving our planet, visitors to the Longwood Flower Show will be thrilled, impressed and educated by the efforts and results of gardeners in our community.
Judges from New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware and Pennsylvania follow National Garden Clubs Standards for judging entries.
All gardeners and flower arrangers are invited to the exhibit; it is not necessary to be a member of a garden club. All entries should follow the rules in “The Handbook For Flower Shows.” Entries in Design, Horticulture, Artistic Crafts and Youth and Educational are limited and interested persons should contact Peggy Hartwick, Longwood Flower Show Chairman, at 610.363.7545.
Clubs planning the flower show include the Spade and Trowel Club of Kennett Square, Four Seasons Garden Club of Kennett Square, The Garden Class of the Woman’s Community Club of Uwchlan, The Country Gardeners and the Wayne Woods Garden Club. A bi-annual event, this show has been held 12 times over the past 21 years.
