The Brandywine Polo Club will host a match to benefit Work to Ride during the finals of the Gerald Balding Tournament on Aug. 22.
The Gerald Balding Tournament, one of the oldest polo tournaments on the East Coast, has been held at the Brandywine Polo Club since 1952. Work to Ride, a nonprofit program, provides disadvantaged urban youth with a chance engage in constructive activities centered on horsemanship. Although the program, now in its second decade, has been tremendously successful and featured in national publications such as Sports Illustrated, raising funds has become difficult during the last two years, due to the economic downturn.
The Brandywine Polo Club hopes to raise $20,000. General admission to the polo games is $10; to be a Work to Ride patron costs $75 for non-Brandywine Polo Club members and $50 for members and includes a luncheon and a post-game reception. Gates open at 1 pm.
