It’s a day for chocolate lovers at Rehoboth Beach Main Street. The Friends of the Rehoboth Beach Public Library will sponsor the legendary, 22nd Annual Chocolate Festival at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center. Admission is only $2. Children under 5 get in free. Sorry, carryout is not permitted. Tickets may be purchased at the door or in advance at the Rehoboth Beach Main Street office, Azura, Carltons, Cake Break or The Boardwalk Plaza Hotel.
There are two ways to participate:
1. Bake or make something! Restaurants, bakeries & chefs, plus amateur bakers or candy-makers from all over the area converge on the Convention Center with entries for the baking contest. Whether you are a professional chef, an amateur with a passion for making cheesecake, or a teen, tween or tot who makes a mean chocolate recipe, you are invited to participate. The Chocolate Baking Contest at the heart of the festival is open to anyone who wants to enter.
Here’s how to enter: The seven categories are Restaurants, Professional/Chef, Bakery, Amateur, Showpiece, Children under 12 and Kid’s Showpiece. There are ribbons for all in the following sub-categories: cookies, brownies, pies, cheesecakes, candy, cakes and most unusual. Entry forms are available by calling 302.227.2772, or visiting www.downtownrehoboth.com. You may also fill out an entry form on the morning of the event. All entries must arrive at the Convention Center on Saturday between 7 and 8:30 a.m. You may leave your creation and come back later to see if you have won one of the many prizes and ribbons.
2. Show up at 11:30am to get tastes of the entries, shop from the vendors, enjoy kid’s games, and maybe win some of the fantastic raffle items. It’s only $2 to get in and then $.50 cents each sample taste. Extra tastes are sold at the event.
Cake Break, Snyder’s Candy, The Coffee Mill, Kilwin’s Rehoboth Avenue, Stringray, Lupo di Mare, Touch of Italy, Rehoboth Beach Main Street, the Village Improvement Association and chef Dru Tevis will be selling tasty delights and offering fabulous raffle prizes to win. Chances are $5 for 20 tickets. Chances are available at the Main Street Office located in the Convention Center parking lot on the day of the event.
If you need a chocolate break, lunch and delicious milk provided by the Lewes Dairy will be sold. Kids can enjoy Rehoboth Cooperative Preschool’s Chunk of Chocolate Children’s Fun.
Whether you want to enter the baking contest or just want the scrumptious treats, plan to come downtown to the Rehoboth Convention Center on Saturday, March 3. There will be goodies from some of the most notable gourmet bakers and chefs in Rehoboth, including many of our finest restaurants. There will be more chocolate in one place than you could ever imagine!
