Rockwood Ice Cream Festival Dishes Out Fun

Share

The whole family finds fun at Rockwood Park’s Old Fashioned Ice Cream Festival, the longest running of its kind in the history of Delaware. Extending over a whole weekend, it features food from local restaurants, eco-crafters and creameries, as well as live music.

Managed by Barry Schlecker, previous director for such events as the Brandywine Festival of the Arts and the Newark and Wilmington film festivals, the recently resuscitated ice cream festival expects to be as successful and organized as ever.

New Castle County, which finances the festival, had to cancel the 2007 celebrations due to funding complications. With the help of Schlecker, however, the festival resumed its annual tradition the following year, and he has helped it enjoy continuing success. Last year’s festival hosted more than 15,000 visitors, and more are expected this year. Admission prices are $5 for adults and $1 for kids (12 and under).
