Donald L. Fennimore will give a lecture about legendary Philadelphia silversmiths Thomas Fletcher and Sidney Gardiner at 7:30pm on Friday, October 22 at Locati Auctions in Maple Glen.
“We are excited to kick off our new lecture series with Donald Fennimore,” says Michael Locati, co-owner of Locati Auctions. “He is a leading authority on Fletcher and Gardiner, masters in their field.”
Fletcher and Gardiner were the foremost silversmiths in the United States during the early 19th century, garnering commissions for presentation pieces for the federal government as well as luxury household items such as jewelry, tea sets and silverware. Their work is of exceptional beauty and quality and offers a valuable insight into a dynamic era in our early national history.
Donald L. Fennimore is curator emeritus at Winterthur Museum and Country Estate. He joined the curatorial division in 1971 after receiving his master’s degree from the Winterthur Program in Early American Culture at the University of Delaware. Mr. Fennimore has authored, co-authored or contributed to many books and articles in the decorative arts field.
The event is free and open to the public. Admission is limited to 100 guests, who must register in advance at www.locatiauctions.com/events. A wine and cheese reception and early preview for the Locati Auctions October online auction will be held prior to the lecture, starting at 6:30pm.
