Avoid the Black Friday (and Saturday) madness by taking a step back to a simpler time at Auburn Heights Preserve in Yorklyn, Del., for a Steamin’ Weekend.
Take a ride on the Auburn Valley Railroad or in a vintage steam car, watch a Firing Up Demonstration to see how early drivers set a Stanley in motion, and tour the magnificent 1897 mansion. Visitors will also enjoy free steam-popped popcorn from the museum’s vintage Cretor’s popper.
The Marshall Steam Museum houses the world’s largest operating collection of Stanley Steamers, a display of 1930s Lionel electric trains, and an interactive exhibit, Under the Hood: How a Stanley Steam Car Works. Auburn Heights Preserve also features a grand 1897 mansion that was home to three generations of the Marshall family, and tours of the home will be available. The events take place on both days from noon to 4pm.
