Blooms & Bamboo

Oct. 3 – Nov. 17, Kennett Square, Pa.

Longwood Gardens’ annual Chrysanthemum Festival gets an update this year as the garden debuts Blooms and Bamboo: Chrysanthemum and Ikebana Sogetsu Artistry.Celebrating the Japanese art of flower arrangement, Blooms and Bamboo will take over the four-acre conservatory and features specially trained flowers, plus the Thousand Bloom Chrysanthemum.

 

The Works of Monique Sarkessian

Oct. 4-26, Greenville, Del.

The Station Gallery’s latest exhibit features the works of Wayne, Pa.-based artist, Monique Sarkessian. The exhibit, entitled Glory, showcases everything from still lifes to landscapes.

 

Scary Movie Night at Chaddsford Winery

Oct. 4 & 18, Chadds Ford, Pa.

Gear up for Halloween at Chaddsford Winery’s scary movie nights, complete with happy hour specials, popcorn, food trucks and seating on Vintner’s Lawn. On Oct. 4, the winery will screen Beetlejuiceand Oct. 18, it’ll be Paranormal Activity.  

 

Chester County Day House Tour

Oct. 5, Chester County, Pa.

Now in its 79thyear, the Chester County Day House Tour benefits the Women’s Auxiliary to Chester County Hospital’s Heart to Heart Pledge. This year’s tour, which gives a glimpse into private homes and other landmarks, focuses on the southeast quadrant of the county.

 

Dilworthtown Inn Wine Festival

Oct. 13, West Chester, Pa.

The Dilworthtown Inn Wine Festival features over 100 wines, craft beers and hard ciders to sip against a gorgeous historic backdrop. Proceeds from the event benefit the Abramson Cancer Center at Chester County Hospital.

 

Plein Air Brandywine Valley

Oct. 13-18, Various locations

During this event, artists will paint the Brandywine Valley en plein air. Visitors can watch them work at Marshalton Inn on Oct. 15 or explore their work at a reception at Winterthur Museum on Oct. 18. The event benefits nonprofit organization Children’s Beach House.

 

Fair Hill International

Oct. 17-20, Fair Hill, Md.

Take a trip south to Maryland, where equestrian eventing will take over Fair Hill’s grounds to test the skills of horse and rider.

 

Great Pumpkin Carve

Oct. 17-19, Chadds Ford, Pa.

Drawing visitors from near and far, the Great Pumpkin Carve is an epic three-day celebration of the iconic jack-o-lantern. Over 70 artists will carve their giant pumpkins, which will then be displayed at the Chadds Ford Barn Visitors Center.

 

Lights Festival

Oct. 19, Unionville, Pa.

Ever wanted to experience the Siamese Loi Krathong festival? No need to head to Chiang Mai thanks to the Lights Festival, which will hold its own lantern festival at Plantation Field.

 

Hagley Craft Fair

Oct. 19-20, Wilmington, Del.

Hagley will host its annual craft fair, which features over 50 Mid-Atlantic artisans and their works, which range from jewelry to pottery to woodwork. There will also be specialty foods available.
