Andrew and Rebecca Levitt had been taking a pandemic break from dating when they were lucky enough to find each other through a dating app after realizing it might be a while before the world returned to normal. They first met in person over brunch in Washington, D.C., their home city at the time.
True to form, the couple opted to celebrate their union two years later with a Sunday brunch wedding in May. There was just one problem. “We live in the D.C. area, but Andrew’s grandmother is in her 90s and lives in Wilmington,” says Rebecca. “She basically said, ‘Listen, I love you. But I don’t travel anymore.’ So, we decided to come to her.” the bride says. “We’re both easygoing people who didn’t want a huge fuss.”
The Alexandria, Virginia, residents made the two-hour trip to Delaware in search of their perfect venue, settling on Wilmington’s Brantwyn Estate. The size was perfect for their 75-guest affair, and they liked the indoor-outdoor flow. “I’ve been a bridesmaid 10,000 times, so I had a strong sense for what I cared about and what I didn’t,”
Rebecca booked all the vendors herself. “Once that was done, I realized that if I wanted to actually enjoy my wedding, I needed another person to help me think through the details,” she says.
For their day-of coordinator, the couple hired Lovely Veil Events’ Sarah Timmons. “She’s a lifesaver,” says Rebecca. “I was able to relax because I knew the team we hired had it covered.”
Timmons’ goal was simple. “ I wanted to make sure that they enjoyed their special day, rather than stress or worry about the details,” she says. “We met three times, including one visit to their venue to go over the floor plan, review the timeline and confirm other details.”
On the big day, Timmons and her assistant served as the point of contact for all vendors, setting up the décor and executing the timeline. The groom, meanwhile, had officiated both of his siblings’ weddings—and his sister Kimberly was happy to return the favor for her brother. A few Jewish traditions were incorporated into the outdoor ceremony, then guests made their way inside for brunch. The relaxed garden party theme made for a sweet Sunday all would remember.
Looking back, Rebecca admits she may have been a bit too hands-off. “Our poor florist showed up to give me my bouquet on the morning of and said, ‘You’re the only bride that I’ve never talked to on the phone or met. I really hope you like everything,’” she laughs. “I arranged everything over email and never thought twice.”
